NOSE sports powered by KONG is a worldwide innovative idea to set global standards in private section for detection training. Implementing the highest standards in detection training, participants can compete among with law enforcement and military dog handlers. Additionally, NOSE sports include more challenges in new canine activities.

Participants have the opportunity to implement their knowledge gained through our training courses and feel the heat as a professional dog handlers operating on the field.

NOSE sports powered by KONG are divided in two main events.

NOSE Sports Competitions

NOSE Sports Competitions are the events on a national level. Participants have the opportunity to show their skills with their dogs and earn a participation on NOSE Sports Olympics. These events are organized by International Search Canine Academy through our national representatives. All dog handlers are invited to participated to NOSE Sports competitions, under the guidelines that International Search Canine Academy have developed.

NOSE Sports Olympics

NOSE Sports Olympics are the events on an international level. Participants who achieved the highest scores in NOSE Sports competitions have the opportunity to compete along with participants from other countries. These events are organized by International Search Canine Academy along with our representatives. NOSE sports have several levels of difficulty and variations in exercises. The base of NOSE sports is obedience competitions. Canine teams achieving in all the needed obedience exercises can proceed to the desired task to perform.

KONG detection canine teams' competition

Implementing at the highest level the United Nations standards all participants have the opportunity to feel how professional dog handlers are assessed in detection work before operating in warzones.

Obedience exercises

  • Sit – lie down
  • Heeling (on and off lease),
  • Release of a KONG toy (off lease).

Search exercises:

  • Indoors (on lease),
  • Outdoors (on lease).

Size and soaking time of target

  • KONG piece: 2 gr.
  • Soaking time: 15 min (from first dog’s search)
  • Number of targets: 2 – 6

Distraction products

  • Rubber Bands,
  • Crayons,
  • Batteries,
  • Duct Tape
  • Electrical Tape,
  • Video Tape,
  • Film,
  • Dog Food.

Pass criteria per Canine team

Each canine team must:

  • Indicate at least 1/2 of KONG hides,
  • Have no false indications.

 Dog Handler shall:

  • Not use reinforcing items during search and/or after indication,
  • Not report any false indications.

Failure criteria per Canine team

Detection dog shall:

  • Have less than 1/2 of all the KONG hides indicated,
  • Have false indications,
  • Scratches or physically manipulates the scent source,
  • Actively/intentionally manipulates/damages the environment (operational contact allowed),

Dog handler shall:

  • Use reinforcing items during search and/ or after indication,
  • Report any false indications.

Obedience exercises:

  • Sit – lie down
  • Heeling (on and off lease),
  • Release of a KONG toy (off lease),
  • Remain (on and off site) without distraction,
  • Recall

Search exercises:

  • Indoors (on/ off lease)
  • Outdoors (on/off lease)
  • Transportation means (on/off lease)
  • Odor Recognition Test (on lease).

  • KONG piece:  1 gr
  • Soaking time: 10 min (from first dog’s search)
  • Number of targets: 3 – 7

  • KONG piece: less than 1 gr till an accessible KONG toy
  • Soaking time: 5 min (from first dog’s search)
  • Number of targets: 0 – 7

Pass criteria per Canine team

Detection dog shall:

  • Indicate 100% of the KONG hides,
  • Have no false indications.

Dog Handler shall:

  • Not use reinforcing items during search and/ or after indication,
  • Not report any false indications.

Failure criteria per Canine team

Detection dog shall:

  • Have less than 100% of all the KONG hides indicated,
  • Have false indications,
  • Scratches or physically manipulates the scent source,
  • Actively/intentionally manipulates/damages the environment (operational contact allowed),

Dog Handler shall:

  • Use reinforcing items during search and/ or after indication,
  • Report any false indications.

Detection dog’s indication shall be:

  • Silent and obvious static position without leaving the indicated source,
  • Announced by the handler verbally and/or by raising hand to confirm dog’s indication.

A Canine team shall be disqualified when/ if:

  • The dog shows uncontrolled submissive or aggressive behavior,
  • The dog handler is not able to control the dog during the Competition,
  • Threatening commands, intimidating behavior, physical punishment and/ or verbal correction is used,
  • The dog handler does not follow the instructions of the Assessor,
  • The dog shows uncontrollable barking (loud/high sounds),
  • Spike collars or e-collars are used,
  • Assessment rules or Animal’s Rights are violated,
  • Suspicion of fraud in collar use (e.g. rubber band, hidden spikes).

Creativity competitions

Creativity competitions is a revolutionary approach in dog sports. Random exercises are assigned to participants and they are called to train their dogs in 10 minutes in front of the audience. There is one critical behavior in each exercise that a dog handler must establish in order to considered passed. The canine team that will finish the entire exercise shall be considered succeed. Time of the performed exercise is graded as well.

Before taking part in creativity competitions all canine teams must pass through the obedience test.
